Let the rain and the sprinklers begin!

The lettuce, radishes, swiss chard, carrots, kohlrabi, spinach, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, potatoes, broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, canteloupe, watermelon, zucchini, yellow squash, acorn squash, and everything are thriving with consistent timers on the water sprinkling system!  It is simply amazing what 80 degree temperatures, twice a day soaking/watering, and good old mother nature can do in a few days time!  It's the magic & mystical mix of why we all do what we do!
We hope to get more recent pics up this week so you can see the progress from the seedling stage of the tomatoes and such.  The photo to the left was taken quite some time ago but progress is being made each and every day!  We worked up a smaller area with the tiller for an herb garden as well- so stay tuned!

p.s.- don't forget that Ruby is the Riverdale Ridge Dragon. . . and Ellis is the Riverdale Ridge Supervising Cat.  ('Neither one has learned to run the tiller or the hoe yet. . . but we are working on that!)

Thanks Amy! The summer squash seem to have had some stress with the heat of last week. There are flowers, but the plants have stayed small/short, even with irrigation. Hopefully, this cool down will help them start spreading out. The pepper plants are full of blooms and some have peppers started, but they too seem to be stressed. A few bell peppers have been picked already, but not enough to include in everyone's share yet. The peas, I believe, are done. They made it about 4 - 6 inches up the trellis, but seem to have stopped growing and are turning brown. Many of the herbs are also stressing. They don't seem to be growing. I think they are trying to conserve their energy by staying small. Most of the tomatoes & egg plants seem to be doing ok. The critters are now using the garden as a main source of food because ever thing else they normally eat is dried up and dead. They're eating things you would suspect they would not like (i.e. hot peppers). We will continue to use non-pesticide ways to keep them out, but its quite difficult. They are even challenging the cats and dogs! I've heard quite a few people expressing their saddness in having to let their gardens go because they can't continue to water them. I think we picked a very challenging year to start the CSA, but we going to hang in there! Thank you for supporting us and hope everyone is doing good and staying cool. If you get the time, add a rain dance or two into your schedule!
